Compliance (Collections & Audit)
The Compliance Division is the enforcement section of the Department. The division operates under the philosophy that problems of delinquency and underpayment may be reduced by early intervention, education and assistance.
The Collections Unit contacts taxpayers regarding delinquent payments and unfiled returns. The Audit Section reviews both business and income tax filers and nonfilers in order to ensure that Vermont taxes are being correctly filed and paid.
For the convenience of taxpayers who want to resolve income tax bills, collectors can be reached from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. MasterCard, VISA and Discover are accepted for delinquent tax payments.
