Tax Learning Center

The purpose of our Tax Learning Center is to offer everyone who pays taxes to the state of Vermont some background information, helpful tools, and links to important tax resources. We hope this information assists taxpayers in navigating the complexities of Vermont taxes and makes it easier for taxpayers to use our website.

Simple Lesson on Paying Taxes

First Job? First Taxes! is a presentation on federal and Vermont personal income taxes by the Vermont Department of Taxes. While it is designed for teachers in the classroom, the information may also be helpful for parents and guardians. High school students may go directly to this presentation to learn about taxes, which is especially helpful if they do not have lessons on taxes in their schools. "First Job? First Taxes!" follows fictitious high school student Robin L. Hood as Robin begins a new job and then must file federal and state income tax returns. The presentation covers how to fill out a federal Form W-4, Vermont Form W-4VT, federal Form 1040, and Vermont Form IN-111.
