The Department of Taxes' Compliance Division seeks a talented individual who will be involved with the review of taxpayer records for compliance and provide education to taxpayers. Key responsibilities include analyzing and reviewing taxpayer returns for proper preparation, accuracy, and compliance with Vermont tax laws and regulations, working with taxpayers and their representatives, and playing an active role in taxpayer appeals.
Tax Compliance Officer II, III, VI

The Department of Taxes' Compliance Division seeks an inquisitive, collaborative, digitally proficient and self-motivated individual to assist with the review of taxpayer records for compliance and provide education to taxpayers. Key responsibilities of this position include collecting unpaid taxes on behalf of the state via phone, or otherwise; arranging formal payment agreements, proposing settlements, and when appropriate, waiving selected penalties; and establishing personal liability and initiating bank/wage garnishment orders and property liens.
Commercial Appraisal and Litigation Assistance Program Manager
Montpelier, VT | Application Deadline: June 16, 2025
The Commercial Appraisal and Litigation Assistance Program, created by Act 163 of 2022, supports municipalities in appraising high-value commercial properties to establish fair and defensible values. This is one of two positions that supports this program. The CALAP Manager is responsible for the day-to-day aspects of the program, including but not limited to working with appraisal vendors and municipalities to ensure projects happen timely. This position will work closely with the PVR Division Director, other PVR division supervisors, department legal staff including the CALAP attorney, and external partners including municipal officials and appraisal vendors.
