Assistant Director of Tax Compliance

Montpelier, VT | Application Deadline: 12/13/2023

We are seeking an Assistant Director of Tax Compliance. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with the Director to assist with the managerial functions of leading the Compliance Division. This position also works closely with the Divisions' Audit Manager, other division directors, and the Department's leadership team, including the Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, and Commissioner.

The Assistant Director helps to oversee, coordinate, and support the roughly 50-person Compliance Division. The Division is comprised of audit, collections, data analysis, and support sections. These sections work together to employ a service-oriented approach to discovery, audit, and collection of delinquent taxes as well as promote voluntary compliance. The current salary for this position can range from $71,000 to $112,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Commercial Appraisal and Litigation Assistance Program Manager

Montpelier, VT | Application Deadline: 12/19/2023

The Department of Taxes seeks a detail-oriented, organized commercial appraiser to fill a new position in the Property Valuation and Review Division, managing the statewide Commercial Appraisal and Litigation program, created by Act 163 of 2022. This position, one of two for the program, will support Vermont municipalities in appraising commercial properties to establish fair and defensible values. They may participate in the appeals process as a subject matter expert on the appraisals. This position does not directly supervise but will oversee contracted appraisal firms and work with a high degree of independence and authority.
