Fraud Alert: Phone Scam

Montpelier, May, 26, 2016 – The Vermont Department of Taxes has learned of a new phone scam targeting Vermonters where the caller pretends to be the IRS demanding immediate payment. The Attorney General’s office has had reports from close to 600 Vermonters who have received this type of call.

These calls are a scam. You should not give out any personal information or banking information to the caller.

If you receive this call, please report it to the Attorney General’s Office at 1-800-649-2424. If you believe you have become a victim of identity theft or tax refund fraud, call the Vermont Department of Taxes at 802-828-2865.
