Becoming a victim of identity theft can be devastating and recovering from identity theft can be a long and arduous process.

Here are some resources to get you on the road to recovery:

  • IdentityTheft.gov – is an excellent resource provided by the Federal Trade Commission which includes checklists to guide you through the process and create a customized recovery plan.
     
  • Identity Protection: Prevention, Detection and Victim Assistance – is an online guide provided by the IRS that offers information for victims and provides additional identity theft resources.
     
  • Taxpayer Guide to Identity Theft – is another IRS guide that includes, warning signs, as well as steps to take if you become a victim.
     
  • Vermont Attorney General – an online guide for Vermonters who have been victims or would like to learn more about identity theft. This valuable resource is provided by the Attorney General, William Sorrell and includes step by step instructions for victims of identity theft.
