IRS Extends Certain Tax Deadlines for Vermonters to February 3, 2025

In response to Hurricane Debby, the IRS has postponed various tax filing and payment deadlines occurring between August 8, 2024, and February 3, 2025 for Vermont individuals and businesses affected by the hurricane.

Please refer to the IRS guidance for a specific list of impacted federal tax deadlines.

Vermont Extensions Available Upon Request for Taxpayers Impacted by Hurricane Debby

The Vermont Department of Taxes is not automatically extending due dates for state-level taxes. However, taxpayers impacted by flooding from Hurricane Debby and unable to meet upcoming Vermont tax deadlines between August 8, 2024, and February 3, 2025, can contact the Department to request extensions. Please reach out to our Taxpayer Services Division using our Department directory (tax.vermont.gov/directory) to request an extension.

Taxpayers not impacted by flooding from Hurricane Debby are not eligible for these limited state-level extensions.

Charitable Contributions

Vermont taxpayers making donations to charitable organizations, including organizations working on flood relief, may be eligible for the Vermont Charitable Tax Credit. Vermont has a five percent (5%) personal income tax credit for eligible charitable contributions up to $20,000 available to all Vermont income tax filers, regardless of whether you itemize deductions. You can claim this credit on Vermont personal income taxes when you file. When donating to a charitable organization, remember to ask the organization if your donation is tax-deductible and keep a receipt.
