Annual Certification: Agricultural Land and Farm Buildings

Owners of agricultural land and/or farm buildings enrolled in the Current Use Program are required to certify annually that their agricultural land and farm buildings meet the requirements for enrollment and continue to be eligible for the program. The due date for landowners to certify is Nov. 1 of each year.

Certify Online

Did you know that you can complete your annual agricultural certification electronically using eCuse? The benefits of submitting your form electronically allows you to view the status of your certification, collect signatures for multiple owners, and your submittal will be received immediately upon completion.

Here are a few guides to help you certify online:

Please note: Failure to certify will result in the removal of agricultural land and enrolled farm buildings from the Current Use Program. When the land and buildings are removed from the program, the property taxes will no longer be based upon the use value but will be based upon the assessed value of the land and buildings.

Certify by Mail

To certify by mail, the landowner must complete and submit Form CU-313, Use Value Appraisal Program Agricultural Land Buildings Certification, by the Nov. 1 deadline.

In mid-September, the Department of Taxes will mail Form CU-313 pre-printed for specific parcels to the address we have on file for the owner. A generic form is not available online. If the parcel has only forestland and no agricultural land or buildings enrolled, then a certification is not required, and the landowner will not receive a form for that property. We do not require agricultural certification for new enrollments since the application serves as the certification statement.

The form must be completed, signed, and returned by the deadline. The Department will accept forms postmarked by Nov. 1.  Please mail completed forms to the following address:

Property Valuation and Review
Current Use Program
PO Box 1499, Montpelier, VT 05601-1499

Landowners may also deliver forms to the Department of Taxes customer service window located on the 1st Floor at 133 State Street, Montpelier, VT.

If you are not sure whether you need to certify, you may look up your School Property Account Number (SPAN) using the online search.

If your SPAN is listed, you should receive the form by mid-September. If you do not receive your form in the mail by Sept. 25, email the Current Use Program. In your email, provide your name, any other owner’s names, current mailing address, and property information (town and SPAN).  We will mail you a copy of the form immediately for you to complete and mail the form by the Nov. 1 deadline.

If your SPAN is not listed, you are not required to certify this year.

Please note: The list of SPANs reflects the parcels that were required to submit a form as of July 2019. It does not reflect one way or another if we have received your form.
